Research Interests

Clinically driven research focused on improving outcomes in spine surgery — spanning minimally invasive and endoscopic spine surgery, adult spinal deformity and sagittal balance, enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) and perioperative pain management, ambulatory/outpatient spine surgery, augmented reality and robotics as enabling technologies, and spinal cord injury.

Basic Science Workshops

NIH-funded Spinal Cord Injury Research Training Program (OSU Center for Brain and Spinal Cord Repair, 2007); neuroscience proposal development and grant-writing workshops (Coriell Institute, UMDNJ, W. M. Keck Center at Rutgers, 2007); ACLS certification.

Laboratory Skills

Microscopic spinal cord surgery, reproducible spinal cord injury models (Infinite Horizon impactor), neural stem cell culture, tissue processing and staining, rodent behavioral and locomotion assessment (BBB scoring), electromyography, and related techniques from two years of dedicated spine research.

Completed Laboratory Projects

Graded spinal cord injury rat models with intrathecal stem cell delivery and sensorimotor assessment; intradural bio-scaffold implantation with microsurgical dural repair under 40× magnification.
