Karthik Madhavan, MD, FAANS

Biography

Dr. Karthik Madhavan is a board-certified neurosurgeon (American Board of Neurological Surgery, 2023) and fellowship-trained spine surgeon. He serves as Assistant Professor and Director of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery in the Department of Neurological Surgery at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (July 2023 – present). He previously practiced as a spine neurosurgeon and clinical instructor at Sanford Medical Center / University of North Dakota (2020 – 2023).

Dr. Madhavan completed his neurological surgery residency (ACGME-accredited) at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (2013 – 2020), where he served as Chief Resident (2019 – 2020) and completed a two-year fellowship in complex deformity and minimally invasive spine (MIS) surgery (2016 – 2018). His earlier training includes postdoctoral spine research fellowships at UMDNJ-Rutgers University and residency house-staff training at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. He earned his medical degree (MBBS) from BM Patil Medical School and Research Center, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, India (1998 – 2002).

His national leadership roles include co-chairmanship of the North American Spine Society (NASS) Section on Robotics, Enabling Technology and Minimally Invasive Surgery (REMi), the NASS Surgical Engineering Committee (2021 – 2024), and the NASS Spinal Cord Injury Committee (2018 – 2021). He serves on the editorial board of World Neurosurgery and reviews for multiple neurosurgery and spine journals.
